W6YRA’s Boelter Ground Station
ELFIN is working closely with UCLA’s FCC licensed Amateur Radio Club, W6YRA, to develop a satellite tracking station. The station has two cross-polarized 10′ yagis―one UHF, one VHF―controlled through a computer by Gpredict and soundmodem. Gpredict interfaces with the Sat688 board developed by Mark Spencer (WA8SME). The station currently uses a Yaesu FT-897 radio and Yaesu G-5500 rotors.
The station is currently under development. Since 17 July 2013, it has been able to track and receive signals from satellites on the UHF and VHF amateur bands.

ELFIN’s Knudsen Ground Station
ELFIN is developing a higher-gain station also on the UCLA campus. ELFIN’s station will consist of a UHF array of four cross-polarized 18′ yagis and a VHF array of two cross-polarized 18′ yagis. This station will use an Icom 910-H radio.
The ELFIN Ground Station is currently under development. It has not yet had a motion test of the rotors nor a radio check of the yagis.
